The animation is about the loss of swamps in Finland. From the 1950's till the 1990's much of the countrys swamps were dried. The dried swamps were turned into forests, used for the needs of the wood industry. At the time, little was known about the dryings effects on the climate and the loss of biodiversity.  Currently it is difficult and even impossible to restore them to their original state.
In this work I wanted to use fiction and fantasy as a tool to talk about biodiversity loss. The forest magically becomes a swamp by night. The water rises and strange lights and sounds appear as the swamp reveals itself. I also created some sound design to emphasize these changes in the environment.
My focus was to learn to model local plants growing in swamps. The plants seen by night were modeled by me.
